Adam Popp
Combining hard-won experience and expertise, to empower others to rise above challenges and achieve beyond limits.
My mission, simply put, is to work with you to consistently achieve your maximum performance capability through the application of proven scientific principles of sport and performance psychology.
In much the same way optimal physical training is unique for each individual, optimal mental fitness is unique to each person as well. To that end, we will holistically explore, strengthen, and support your self-confidence, motivation, focus, emotions, and cognitive processes. My goal is to develop with and for you the psychological practices to become the best version of yourself and consistently achieve performance excellence in your sport, business, or personal domain.
Adam's background:
Adam is a 12-year combat veteran of the Air Force with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team leader. In 2007, while working to disarm a roadside bomb (IED) in Afghanistan, Adam was injured by a secondary IED resulting in the amputation of his right leg above the knee.
In December 2016, eight years after losing his leg and a year and a half after his first run as an amputee, Adam became the first above-knee amputee to complete a 100-mile ultramarathon. He later lowered his 100-mile trail time to 16hrs 13min 43sec at the 2024 Raven 24-hour and currently owns seven Guinness World Records.
In his life outside of sports, Adam completed a master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Clinical Counseling from George Washington University and a second master’s degree in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Denver.
Adam currently lives and trains in Golden, Colorado, with his wife Amanda and their son.

Mental Performance Coaching
What a session includes:
A mental performance session is a 1-hour virtual collaborative session aimed at optimizing mental skills and enhancing performance in sports. During these sessions, I work closely with athletes to identify areas of improvement and develop strategies to overcome mental barriers or challenges they may be facing. These sessions aim to empower athletes to cultivate a resilient mindset, optimize their performance potential, and achieve their goals in sports and beyond.
Athlete Testimonial
"I spoke with Adam two days before a big race; I have run 50+ marathons/ultras and usually get in my own head when I am running my fastest. I was so tired of sabotaging all my hard work due to negative thoughts and anxiety during the race. Adam gave me a few simple things to think about in advance of the race and during the race. I used his tips and it was mentally the best race of my life. I will speak with him again."
